Diagnostic Flowchart

Does your puffer have white spots resembling grains of salt which may cover its entire body?  Is there rubbing or scratching against the bottom or tank decor?

The puffer has Ick. Note: Some puffers do not develop spots on the skin.  Heavy infections may be on the gills and show no evidence of disease on other parts of the body.  Treat with Maracide or Coppersafe.
Additionally, use Maracyn-two or Tetracycline Tablets or TriSulfa to prevent secondary infections from bacteria.
