Maracide Mardel Laboratories, Inc.

Indications: This compounded solution has been developed and tested for the treatment of most common tropical freshwater parasites.

Administration and Dosage: Use of a quarantine tank is suggested, but not required.  If your activated carbon filter is more than five days old, it may be left in place.  Carbon less than five days old may reduce the activity of Maracide, and should be removed.  Maintain normal filtration and air.  Use one drop per two gallons of water (7.57 liters) and repeat every 24 hours for 5 days.  (I suggest repeating it for another five days, totalling 10 days)  Do a partial water change after the treatment is finished.  *Watch your puffer for signs of toxicity! Aniline green may be toxic to puffers.  NOTE:  I have halved the dosage above; the original dosage on the package is "one drop per gallon" (3.78 liters).

Precautions:  Any sudden change in aquarium conditions can be hazardous.  Make changes gradually.  In tanks sealed with silicone, some staining may occur.  Do not overdose.  Keep this out of the reach of children.  For aquarium use only.  This product is intended for exclusive use with ornamental fish and/or other ornamental organisms and is not intended for use with fish for human consumption.

Active Ingredients: complex of; Tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane, Dibromohydroxymercuriflourescein, Aniline Green.

Parasites Controlled:  Ick (Ichthyophthirius), Chilodinella, Trichodina, Gyrodactylus, Velvet.

Notes from Mardel on biological filtration:  "Nitrobacter and Nitrosomonas are recognized as the primary beneficial bacteria present in the biological filtration system of any aquarium.  Some drugs which treat fish diseases and parasitic infestations are harmful to these 'good' bacteria.  When the biological filter is upset, there is a buildup of ammonia and nitrite concentrations resulting in fish distress and death.  Mardel products have been tested with known strains of these bacteria with no adverse effects noted.  When used as directed, they do not interfere with the biological filter."
